Seems well built and substantial, heavy-duty thick metal. Feels nice and solid and I expect it to last me (I'm a homeowner).
I'd like a tweak to the brake or a vernier crank to let me snug the drywall up the last little bit to a ceiling. The brake lets the lift back down 1/8"..3/16" to lock, a minor nuisance. To push it up the last little bit I'll try using a spring-clamp to pull the cable sideways.

Very Good for the money. I like that I can work at my own pace without having to worry about getting a rented hoist back in time. I would recommend this hoist to the do-it-yourselfers out there.

With free shipping, you can't beat this price. I'm finishing my basement, and will probably only use this once (twice if i ever drywall my garage). My local Home Depot rents this for $128/wk or $32/day. For an extra 30 bucks, I don't have to worry about a time limit, can loan it out to buddies when I'm done - or even throw it on ebay/craigslist. I can drywall my ceiling ALONE, rather than depending on help.
Packaging? I've recieved unmovable/uncrushable books that were more carefully packaged. Granted, this item weighs 70lbs, and the shipping was FREE... but still, the peices were loose within this large box. There was an attempt to clear-tape it shut, but it really needs to be in a firmer box. Some styrofoam ends would really go a long way.
Luckily nothing fell out, because there was a large hole in one corner of the package, created by the loose poles jostling around on the trip. (if i can figure out how to upload a picture I will)
For me, it works and its only cosmetic damage (scratches) - so it's not worth making a stink about returning it. I expected bad packaging based on other customer feedback, and the price is still worth the packaging risk.

I'm giving this product 5 stars because I am a novist drywall installer. I installed around 1700 square feet of ceiling and about 600 square feet of wall for a detached workshop. I didn't use the hoist for the walls, so I can't give an opinion for its vertical use. The overhead use however, this product performed flawless. This is not intended for a single person application when using 12' sheets of drywall. First of all, it is almost impossible to get the sheets on this hoist by yourself, since its height is almost 5'. Mark my words, use to people minimum when installing 12' sheets. When installing 8' sheets at 1/2" thick, it was no problem by myself. when you first start raising the panel, it almost seems as though the houst is going to slip, but it's just the next level of boom raising. I tightened the nut on the wheel, so it couldn't move. The instructions are easy to understand and assembly takes mere minutes. I would recommend this hoist to anyone. Seems every bit as well built as the rentals or the %500 and up models.
