4 out of 5 stars it is what it is....   March 5, 2010

If you are tight with your money, or you like a simple no nonsense tool. Yes, there are air powered versions available, but for 3 to 10 times the price this is a low cost alternative for those who dont mind smacking with a hammer. Only draw back is if your not in very good shape, you will know it after a couple of hours. Be carefull when you get close to the walls not to smack it with the provided hammer. Outside of that, its no-nonsence, very few moving parts. Has a 7 year warranty.

1 out of 5 stars not so good   February 16, 2010

The tolerances are too lose. Failing 20%. Many times it won't set the nails fully, there appears to be no adjustment(other than shiming the base). At times it drops 2 nails sending 1 almost correctly and the other thorough the corner of the board leaving it protuding half way. Not what I expect of Bostitich. I would have bought a cheap air-nailer if it was half this bad. (I didn't what to carry a compressor or hear it.)
I have used 3 air-nailers. The Porter Cable was the best.
One of the other reviews stated it was hard to use because 'you have to hit all in 1 shot everytime'. No, there is a ratch system. Apparently he didn't use it.
Last year it was $150 then $129 by Dec. Now $59 ??

3 out of 5 stars Need two people to make it work properly   February 11, 2010

We wanted to put in hardwood floors (tongue and groove kind) ourselves and we did not want to rent the expensive, noisy, and energy-intensive pnuematic pump etc. We also did not want the time pressure to have to do the job quickly to minimize rental costs.

So we bought this. This works fairly well and at times we made fast progress. But we needed two people - one person to hold the staple gun down so it does not move while the one person used the hammer.(I was the one to hammer. My shoulders are still somewhat sore after 2 weeks!).

It would have been better if the gun had long pedals on both sides to hold it down and stabilize it with one's feet. Also, it takes some time to get a hang of it and initially it is quite scary. And sometimes, no matter how hard and well you drive the hammer, the staples dont go all the way in. When this happens, it takes some work to cut off the piece that is sticking up and to punch the rest of the staple all the way.

We are not totally thrilled with this but then for us it was a decent solution given our goals.

5 out of 5 stars works fine   February 4, 2010
No problems. Nailer worked better than expected. Even though one swift swing was needed to completely sink the nail, using a second blow to finish off if needed was usually not a problem and rarely resulted in bent or twisted nails that needed to removed. I used 1.5'' as the 2'' nails were pretty tough to drive in with one blow.

5 out of 5 stars good as new   February 1, 2010

I used this system to install oak flooring. The nailer and hammer worked perfectly and appeared to be new even though they were labeled reconditioned. A much better deal and quality than renting (which I used to do).
