I bought my Bernzomatic 19425 at least 5 years ago and I have used it almost exclusively to light lump charcoal in my Big Green Egg (BGE) grill/smoker. Perfect. I can't imagine anything better to light the BGE. It also works exceptionally well to light backyard fire pits, etc. Long "handle" and convenient push-button spark lighter that doesn't require matches, lighter, or striker. Portable camping propane bottles last a long time (weeks to months) and you can light a wood fire or charcoal at enough range from the fire to avoid alot of smokiness--and of course no need for charcoal lighter fluid, which ruins the flavor of grilled food (I'm a BGE purist). I've used this torch in Northern Minnesota (between -30 degrees F and 95 degrees F), Illinois, California, and Pennsylvania (in snow, rain, and wind). Never fails. We grill year round, 1-4 times a week. Only after THOUSANDS of uses, it may need a new igniter, but the torch itself still works perfectly. No, I do NOT work for the company and I'm not a paid spokesperson :-). I have absolutely no idea how it does burning WEEDS. Sounds like a dicey proposition to use a torch to burn green vegetation, but it works great on dead, blackened wood, STS. Probably perfect for you Webber grillers too; try lump charcoal and quit buying lighter fluid. Good luck grilling!

Does a great job at killing live weeds/grass and burns up the old dead ones. Just be careful not to get too close to plants or grass that you don't want to kill because the heat will kill them.

I have found this product to be a wonderful alternative to using herbicides or bending over to physically remove weeds from between the bricks which make up my large backyard patio. It is very time efficient and and easy to use. It burns off the weeds leaving little ash which is easily swept up or which may be left for the wind to disperse.
A secondary use I found for this unit was the elimination of moles from my lawn and garden. Simply place the nozzle in the mole's tunnel, turn on the gas let it fill the tunnel then push the ignition button. With any luck there is nothing left but crispy critters.
I would suggest using the larger (round) 1 lb., propane bottle as it tends to provide a nicer balance to the unit, making it very comfortable to hold.

Understand and Enjoy how this device is supposed to work. Been easy, if a little slow to weed using the torch. Usually takes two passes, one to wilt the plant then next day or so one to actually burn it. Negative feature is the PIZO igniter, after 4 bottles of gas and about 50+ uses of the ignitor it has become unreliable, so will have to get a standard striker and layout of the unit will make this a pain.

I saw my neighbor burning weeds with one of these contraptions and it was brilliant! I immediately went out to find one but alas couldn't find one in the stores, so I ordered it from Amazon.com. Started using it right away and now I actually enjoy weeding! Very user friendly, doesn't hurt your back and I even use it to start my firepit at night.
